Pidyon HaBen
Thirty-one days after a firstborn son. A small ceremony, a long-remembered gift.

Pidyon HaBen marks the redemption of the firstborn son on or after the thirty-first day of life. The ceremony is brief, attended by close family and a Kohen. Silver is the traditional metal, but the wider field is open: heirloom pieces, books that travel forward, objects that the child will inherit one day from a shelf and not a story.
